Denture Care |

|
A majority of people prefer to use a standard toothbrush & regular toothpaste to clean their denture(s). This technique does not effectively remove all the plaque & bacteria found on dentures.
Toothpaste is abrasive & can cause small scratches on the surface of dentures. These small scratches attract debris, plaque builds up & in turn calcified plaque grows.
Special denture cleaners are available to help ensure your dentures are effectively cleaned without causing them damage.
Other advantages:
- Convenient to use
- Ideal for people who have difficulty cleaning dentures manually
- Provide both chemical & mechanical cleaning. For example: lifts stains, removes plaque & also removes 99.9% of bacteria.
Some denture wearers can face the following problems when dentures are not cleaned correctly:
- Plaque: Plaque is a sticky film that will form on dentures in the same way that it forms on natural teeth. Which can lead to gum disease & bad breath.
- Calcified Plaque: Plaque re-forms soon after cleaning which is why it is so important to clean your dentures at least twice a day. In time this will calcify & be difficult to remove.
- Staining: Some food & drinks can cause staining on dentures such as coffee, tea, red wine & curry. Some medications & tobacco can also cause staining on your dentures.
*** Poorly maintained dentures can become a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. Which in turn can cause problems with gums resulting in sore spots & also ulcers. |
